In March 2009 Apple introduced the 3rd generation iPod Shuffle. This latest iPod is The smallest mp3 player in the world. Part of the small packaging includes moving the controls, such as volume, new song, etc to the right ear bud cable. This means that only apple headphones designed for the 3rg Generation of shuffles are compatible. Perhaps one of the coolest new features of the Shuffles is the ability for it to speak, telling you what song is currently playing. While the 2nd generation of iPods was available in a variety of colors, including the limited edition Product Red, the current shuffle comes in silver or black.Full retail price of the 3G Shuffle is $79.
eBay sells the latest 3G s for about $61 new.
eBay also has a a full selection of new and used earlier generation iPod shuffles for as little as $25!!!
Overstock currently has plenty of 2nd Generation Shuffles for $37 plus shipping.
Overstock has incorrectly marked some of their 2G shuffles as 3rd Generation.
Note that the 3rd Generation Shuffle does not have the clickwheel but instead the controls are on the headphones.
